An occlusal splint is a hard, clear acrylic guard custom‑fitted to either the upper or lower teeth. It covers the biting surfaces to create a protective barrier between the teeth.
Occlusal splints are worn at night to reduce the pressure caused by clenching and grinding (bruxism). By absorbing and redistributing this force, the splint helps relax the jaw muscles, minimise morning jaw soreness, and protect the teeth from excessive wear or fractures.
